Course A Piece of the Pie: An Introduction to Employee Share Schemes

Overview

Offering a form of share-based incentive can be crucial to successfully recruit and retain the best executives and employees. Research has shown that businesses whose employees have an equity interest in their employer regularly outperform their competitors. The UK offers a range of tax efficient employee plans, both discretionary and on an all employee basis.

This course provides the ideal introduction to what can be a complex area of law, covering a large range of topics in some detail, as well as including some practical tax planning points on dealing with employee awards at the time of a takeover or trade sale.

It will include:

  • An overview of all HMRC tax-advantaged share plans including the available tax reliefs
  • A detailed explanation of enterprise management incentive (EMI) option arrangements
  • An introduction to employee benefit trusts and the disguised remuneration rules
  • A summary of the restricted securities regime and its tax implications
  • The impact of a company sale on employee share options and awards
it will be of interest to tax, corporate and employment lawyers, in-house counsel, HR professionals and finance directors
