Course Business Development for Lawyers


This session explains how law firms and lawyers can use a range of tools and tactics to plan a robust business development/marketing strategy and implement it successfully. The course considers a wide range of issues involved in business development and will take the delegate on a journey from the thinking through to the all-important doing, and will explain how to get others within the firm involved.

Key areas covered are:

  • What is BD/marketing in law firms? Whose job is it?
  • Creating a strategy involving the analysis of the business environment, the capabilities and aims of the firm, and the establishment of competitive advantages.
  • Targeting clients. Understanding existing and prospect clients and how to develop them.
  • Developing client relationships and establishing a ‘pipeline’ of business, including personal BD and selling skills
  • Communication, marketing tools and ideas – a look at a range of methods to implement the plan, including the web, social media, advertising, seminars, PR and more.
  • Creating a simple and practical BD action plan.
