Course Domestic Abuse; Injunctions, Harassment and Enforcement


Protecting clients at risk of violence; securing injunctions and dealing with enforcement.

Domestic abuse is a key feature of many family law cases and often requires emergency action. This course will equip you with practical knowledge of the range and scope of legal remedies available, updating you on how recent changes have affected domestic violence protection work.

You will learn:

  • The law and procedure for obtaining non-molestation, occupation and restraining orders including for clients between 16 and 18 years old
  • The importance of identifying and appropriately addressing domestic abuse issues in other family matters - Practice Direction 12J – Child Arrangements and Contact Orders: Domestic Violence and Harm.
  • Criminal responses to domestic violence - the Protection from Harassment Act 1997, harassment and stalking, ‘Go’ orders.
  • Enforcement.
  • Domestic violence and support structures for victims of violence – the role of IDVAs, MARACs, women’s organisations and refuges.
  • Legal aid and the domestic violence gateways.
