Course Immigration - IAAS Level 2- Intensive Immigration and Asylum Law Course (Day 1)

Overview


This is the first day of a two-day intensive revision and exam preparation course presented by the Chief Assessor of the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme and has been designed to support candidates who are preparing for the June 2017 examinations.

Delegates attending the course will receive a comprehensive set of notes which can be used as permitted materials in the June exam. These notes will be available for purchase separately after the course has taken place - for further details see below.

Designed to maximise your chance of success in the exam, the course will

  • explain the candidates’ exam guidance, focusing on the permitted materials and sources; and
  • provide a detailed review of the areas of law and practice which form the syllabus for the exam and a comprehensive set of notes to support your revision.
  • The course has been designed so that candidates can choose to attend one or both days:
Day 1 will focus on:

• Legal Aid overview:

- Scope, Means & Merits

- Contractual requirements

- UASCs.

• International Protection:

- Asylum law and procedure

- Exclusion, cessation and revocation

- Subsidiary protection

- Statelessness

- Family Reunion

- Human Rights

• Remedies:

- Rights and grounds of appeal.

- Certification

• Asylum Support

• Offences and Professional conduct

Day 2 will focus on:

• Immigration Rules overview and parts 1 and 9;

• Deportation:

- Automatic deportation, public good deportation, EEA deportation.

- Remedies.

• Detention and bail - powers and procedure

• EEA Regulations overview

• Domestic Violence:

- DV applications within the Rules and under the concession.

- DV provisions for EEA citizens and their family members.

- Remedies.

• Human Trafficking:

- Law, policy and procedure

- Remedies.

• Remedies:

- Administrative Review

- Judicial review

COURSE NOTES

CLT has created a course manual that has been compiled in accordance with the Law Society Candidates' Guidance. This manual will be distributed to delegates attending the course and contains the materials that candidates can take into the examination (excluding any edition of Margaret Phelan & James Gillespie Immigration Law Handbook and the SRA Code of Conduct).
