Course Residential Conveyancing Solicitors: How Competent Are You?

The new challenge is to meet the competences set out in the Competence Statement published by the SRA. A yearly declaration of competence based on “informed reflection” is required.

In this new environment solicitors must reflect not just on their legal knowledge but also on the four domains identified by the SRA namely ethics, professionalism and judgment, technical legal practice, working with other people and managing themselves and their own work.

As you will see from the Competence Statement solicitors need not only to know the law but also the commercial context in which it is applied.

This new half day course is designed to assist residential conveyancing solicitors in the relatively early stages of their careers, or solicitors who may want a refresher session to:

  • Understand in outline the form and content of the competence statement
  • Consider the ethical issues that affect residential conveyancers
  • Consider the key risk areas in residential conveyancing and how to mitigate those risks
  • Deal with difficult clients and colleagues
  • Consider what steps to take if something goes wrong
  • Assist each delegate to reflect on their own strengths and limitations
