Course Taking Private Children Law to the Next Level

Build on your experience and take your children law practice to the next level.

Working with parental disputes about arrangements for children can be some of the most challenging family law work, but forms part of the practice of solicitors of all levels of qualification.

This half day course will give you an overview of the law and procedure, with references to important case law. You will develop a greater understanding of the framework of children cases from engaging and advising the client when first taking instructions to the end of proceedings.

You will gain insight into how to work with clients under stress, where managing expectations is crucial, as well as how to demonstrate to your clients the benefits of resolving disputes using out of court practices such as mediation.

On completing this course delegates will be able to:

  • Outline the key orders including parental responsibility, child arrangements orders, specific issue orders, prohibited steps orders and cases involving relocation and change of name
  • Understand how to deal with cases involving domestic violence and implacable hostility
  • Analyse how to apply the welfare principle and to appreciate the importance of parental involvement
  • Outline the methods of enforcement and understand the costs position in these children proceedings

This 3 hour course is aimed at solicitors who have been qualified for 2 – 3+ years and wish to develop their skills in private children law taking it to the next level.
